Thunderbird building summary file for trash

This behaviour now appears every time I open thunderbird. Although it no longer has to rebuild the summary file for my inbox. The first time I click on my Sent items folder, I have a few minutes wait, before I can see a summary of my messages.

The same applies if I attempt to look at my Drafts folder which is practically empty. I only have about messages in my sent items folder, and my inbox is probably not much bigger. I have now deleted the contents of my drafts folder so that no longer presents the problem. What's going on? It is strongly recommended. It worked a treat. Although I'm familiar with the concept of compacting within database applications I had always read the "compact" option as compress.

Although I am a very experienced programmer, I'm just another user when it comes to Thunderbird and Firefox. This thread was archived. Please ask a new question if you need help. This folder, if it is in fact on an IMAP server, might be subject to periodic purging by the email provider. I'd say that if you want to keep something, take a moment to file it in a proper folder, even if it's named "general" or "miscellaneous". It's possible to bypass this, either via Account Settings or by holding down shift when deleting.

I have Thunderbird Email version I just have the ordinary Junk folder, but a friend told me that the Trash folder was something different, as well as useful I'd always thought the functions of Trash and Junk were the same thing.

Thunderbird's own preference is to call it Trash but in an IMAP-connected account it may take the name given to the equivalent folder on the server.

The name chosen might also vary with the language used for Thunderbird. For instance, I am in the UK where the word "trash" is viewed with some disdain, and most of my relevant folders are actually named "Deleted". One of my gmail accounts actually has both "Trash" and "Deleted". Mozilla Thunderbird has trouble downloading new mail. Subsequent attempts to download mail may result in new messages being downloaded that are empty when you try to read them, multiple entries for new messages in the Inbox, or large numbers of reported unread messages that cannot be found.

The symptoms may suggest a corrupt Inbox. These problems can occur if you do not compact the Inbox. Mozilla Thunderbird mailboxes require periodic maintenance to prevent such problems from occurring. By the time the problems occur, compacting the Inbox, though still required, may not be sufficient to resolve the problem.

Compact the Inbox if you have not already done so. But I do not have any folder that big. Re: "Thunderbird trash is full" message 4GB file size problem. And dovecot does a very good job of it. As you found out with Trash You'd lost it. Not really Originally Posted by fperal. Today I have got the message "The folder Trash is full, and can't hold any more messages.
