But I seem to have some new problems as a result. My Windows Fax and Scan does not recognise the fax files in the designated folder anymore and not sure if this is connected when I write a web address in a word document and press return it does not create a hyperlink as it used to. I tried to restore to a previous point but on restart it told me this had 'failed' as it could not access a file. I turned off the anti-virus as it suggested but it still failed. My experience has been that permissions get changed the wrong way after certain Microsoft Updates.
This is been known to me since before the year with NTFS file systems, and with registry items. Symptoms include Access Denied errors and user settings that can no longer be changed even after following correct procedure. So, I check permissions on the affected element whenever I run into these issues and, invariably, permissions have been altered. Quite a learning experience in the process.
