A few dialogue options later and if you're Dexterity is high enough and you too can be a duelist. To become a duelist you must talk to a woman named Isabela at The Pearl in Denerim the city's brothel.
She's in one of the back corner's surrounded by a group of men. She beat them in a round of cards, a little fight will occure and after they have run off, you can talk to her. After talking with her a bit you can ask her if you want to become a duelist.
She will then challenge you to a round of cards. Don't worry though, you don't actually know how to play their game. She will give you an option to shuffle the cards yourself, or let her do it.
Say that you will shuffle them, and an option to steal the best cards will cone up. You need to have at least two points into your steal skill for this to be sucessful. If this does not work she will say your cheating but the game will continue. As the game goes on you get two options which require a high dexterity. You can either peak at her cards or try and steal on of her cards when she isn't looking.
Being sucessful in any of the three options I mentioned will cause you to win the game and she will teach you how to be a duelist. Hope this helps.
When I plated cards with her the option I used was to catch her cheating my dex was about 35 human warrior it took me two tries but I finnaly caught her and the she found me worthy of teaching. You have to see Isabela, she'll be at the Pearl in Denerim.
She'll engage in a small fight and then afterwards speak to her.
